When arriving by car you should considder, that petrol and diesel is more expensive in Italy than in Austria, Slowenia or Croatia.
In Italy you have to pay for the highway by the Km you use it. You get a ticket when you enter the highway and pay when you leave it.
In Austria you have to pay a "Vignette" for using the highways. That is a sticker that allows you to use all highways in Austria (for e.g.5,50 Euros you may drive there for 10days). The "BRENNER" is a pass-road you have to pay seperately - the fee for 1 way is around 8 Euros.
When you have enough time, leave the highway in the north of Lago di garda and take the coastroad on the west-coast or over the Monte Baldo on the east-coast of the lake.
