  The "Under the Griffins" tenement
by wroclawiak

There are a lot of interesting buildings around the Market Square (rynek). One of them is the "Under the Griffins" tenement that belonged to a wealthy bourgeois family. This fact which is reflected by the number of windows. The greater the number the higher the tax paid. The building itself is an example of Netherlandish Mannerism. It has a triangular top adorned with friffins, lions and eagels.
The "Under the Griffins" house was an important centre for the developement of the baroque theatrical movement in the 17th century.

Address: Rynek 2
