Greenwich Village is an area which needs to be experienced in order to be understood. It is an eclectic collection of funky shops, tiny bakeries and restaurants ranging from Mom and Pops to tourist traps. Like the rest of the city, the village is a blend of ethnicities and has a little spoonful of the melting pot that makes New York so diverse and fascinating.

This is a great place to walk around during the day, browsing the vintage clothing stores and sampling baked goods and pastries whose aroma is sufficient to trigger an urge for sugar. At night, Greenwich village is a popular place for eating and drinking as well. There is a large selection of bars and clubs in the area. Since I haven't been in a while, I can't make any specific recommendations.
