"Rasputin Mania" Palaces Tip by Assenczo

Palaces, Saint Petersburg: 103 reviews and 205 photos

Most of the public, Russian or not, has a pretty good idea who Rasputin is. Being such a celebrity, he must really enjoy the popularity expressed by the hordes of visitors going to the Yusoupov Palace on Moika River. Eventually I also did the tour that deals with his last moments (the palace management has skillfully divided the visits in two kinds - with or without the room where Rasputin was having his life attempted at) and the general impression is that the facts or the lack of facts on the contrary suggest that most of the story is produced by murky propaganda and has no substance. But this is not why I brought your attention to this palace (Yusoupovs had at least five palaces in St. Petersburg proper). What most tourists miss is the palace theater in action. If you have time please visit during a performance of one of the period comic operas. It perfectly fits the ambience and the sensation is unforgettable.

Address: Moika river at teatralnaya Ploshchad
Directions: Two minite walk from the Mariinski Theater.
