  St. Mary's Church, Ewelme

This church is over 500 years old, with some bits dating back as far as the 14th century. It has close links with the Chaucer family (as in Geoffrey Chaucer the author of the Canterbury Tales - some of which are surprisingly rude!)

The church appears to have battlements on top as in the style of a castle, although I believe this to be more decorative than functional. The style of the church is similar to those that can be seen in Suffolk (Ipswich way) with the chequer patterns of square stones.

Towards the back of the church, almshouses have been built and it is possible to walk straight into the church from these houses with a roof over you head all the way.

Address: Ewelme near Oxfordshire
Directions: It's the focal point of Ewelme Village, you can't miss it!
