Machu Picchu is a place full of history as well as mystery. It's a place everyone should visit in their lifetime. My husband and I took a 2 hour guided tour our first day there, then we explored on our own that afternoon and the next day. We hiked part of the Inca Trail to the Sun Gate, and we hiked to the top of Waynapicchu mountain. The views from every angle were spectacular. The Waynapicchu hike was very challenging (up and down), so it's not recommended for people who aren't in good shape or have any sort of heart problems or fear of heights. We stayed overnight in the town of Aguas Calientes so we could make the most of our time there, since we weren't camping on the Inca trail.
