"Use Pesos to Support the Economy" Top 5 Page for this destination Money Tip by Kaspian

Money, Cancún: 3 reviews and 1 photos

Favorite thing: Use Mexican pesos for your purchasing whenever you can. 10 pesos is worth approximately $1 USD. Pesos are easy to use, exchange, and are just as convenient as U.S .dollars. (The exchange rate at the Cancun airport is actually quite good.) The use of foreign U.S. dollars for trade can lead to a catastrophic economic collapse of a country as it did in Argentina and Turkey. Using the local currency of a poorer country helps build confidence in that country's money and in the long run helps everyone who lives there.

Another great tip. So where do you get your pesos, Ed? We routinely use ATMs abroad but have read some warnings about those around Cancun. We'll be at an all-incusive for a "destination" wedding: do you suggest we tip the shuttle driver in U.S. dollars and then get some pesos at an ATM at the resort? Not sure if those may be considered more likely to be untampered with or not.

      Haha - that's what I'm thinking! I don't have a choice of resort though.

Volaris - Cancun to Loreto. We subscribe to the Jimmy Buffet mentality: No shoes, no shirt, no problem....
