The construction of the sea fortress on this island just in front of Helsinki was created in the middle of the 18th century. Today the fortress is on the UNESCO?s World Heritage List. You can follow a tour and there are information posts where you can get a good overview of the island and its (remains of the) fortress and history. You can walk through some old tunnels. Furthermore there are a couple of restaurants and a small community is living on the island, so there's a church, shop, etc.

Most of all Suomenlinna is famous in the summer, when tourist and the Finns go to the island (15 min ferry) to enjoy the sun and see and have a picnic.

Address: Suomenlinna
