A little over 25 miles north on the Icefields Parkway, just a few miles short of the Sunwapta Pass - the border of Banff and Jasper National Parks - is the trailhead for Parker?s Ridge. This is an easy wander that is very popular. It can easily be combined with a day drive along the Icefields Parway. You stroll for 1.5 miles across alpine tundra to a glorious viewpoint over the Saskacthewan Glacier far below, the largest ice tongue coming out of the vast Columbia Icefield that lies above. Take some wind protection and hang out in the meadows and gaze at the glacier which descends 750 meters from the ice field to the valley below.
