  Long Beach, Phu Quoc Island
by worldkiwi

Phu Quoc Island is about 1 hour's flying time from Ho Chi Minh City. The island is quite large and situated off the southwest coast of Vietnam.
The island is famed for its beaches. Most of the big hotels/resorts are located along the northern part of aptly named Long Beach. This is a truly long stretch of lovely sand that stretches many many kilometres down the west coast. The water isn't that fantastic, being quite murky, but relatively clean. I stayed in Phu Quoc Saigon Resort in April 2005. The resort was only a short walk from the main town on the island, Duong Dong. The airport is virtually right next to the town and in fact, I walked there on my first day exploring!
There isn't much to do on Phu Quoc apart from relaxing, so that makes it the perfect spot to unwind after a business trip or even a full-on backpacking trip on the mainland. There are some more beautiful spots on Long Beach further south and on the east coast as well. See the 'general tips' section for some more pictures and the accommodation section for information about the resort I stayed in.
You'll need to hire a motorbike or charter one with a driver to really explore the island.
