Favorite thing: In the temperate regions of the United States, there is a progression in the spring, starting with little snowdrops as early as January. Then come the crocuses, daffodils and tulips.

Early Spring (February - weeks 1-4)

Snowdrop (Galanthus nivalis)
Danford Iris (Iris danfordiae)
Crocus (Crocus spp.) - second picture
Siberian Squill (Scilla siberica)
Common Grape Hyacinth (Muscari botryoides)
Early Daffodils (Narcissus spp.)
Netted Iris (Iris reticulata)

Midspring (March weeks 4-8)

Early Tulips (Tulipa spp.)
Hyacinths (Hyacinthus orientalis) -third picture
Medium-Cupped Daffodils (Narcissus spp.) - fifth picture

Late Spring ( April weeks 8-12)

Midseason Tulips (Tulipa spp.)
Late Daffodils (Narcissus spp.)
Late Tulips (Tulipa spp.)

Among the flowering shrubs, the first one is usually the forsythia, and following the forsythia are the lilacs, dogwood, azaleas, wisteria and flowering cherries, apples, plums and other fruit trees.

Fondest memory: I don't really believe it is spring until I see the forsythia bushes in bloom. I love the cheery yellow color. In their natural growth pattern, they send out leaders for a shaggy look. That's the way I think they look best. I don't think they are as beautiful when people trim them like hedges.

The picture has a closeup of a bush, and upper left is a single shaggy plant. Middle left is a row of shaggy ones in the middle of the highway, and top center is another row in the middle of the highway all trimmed neatly.
