This is definitely my favourite bridge I've ever seen. What an idea! To build bravely a railway station at the foot of the Gothic cathedral. And to link the two sides of the Rhine with the impressive bridge placed exactly at the main axis of the Cathedral.

When the first bridge was built here in 1859 the Cathedral was not finished yet and there was a lot of symbolics in placing the Railway bridge exactly at its axis - as if to say that the railway will bring new prosperity to the city that would enable the Cathedral to be finished as well.

Today's Hohenzollernbridge was built between 1907 and 1911 and still catches us with its ingenious metal construction. It was widened several times - last time in 1991 when parallel three arches were added.

I just loved the idea of making a bridge for trains and pedestrians only, and loved the idea of walking so close to the tracks. The Hohenzollern bridge also enables fantastic views of the Rhine and the Cathedral.
