  Boat cruise at Li River
by yipsufen

Li River stretches 437km long. One of the highlights of Guilin / Yangshuo must be the boat cruise along Li River. The best part stretches 83km from Guilin to Yangshuo. You will feel like stepping into a chinese painting art gallery ! People often describe that the mountains are green, waters are serene, caves are mysterious and rocks are beautiful.

The boat cruise starts from Yangshuo jetty (near to Yangshuo Park) and approximately four hours. You can bring some snacks, tidbits and card games to entertatin yourself while on board. While seating at the lower deck of the cruise, you can enjoy the scenery from your window or watch the movie "Liu Sanjie" which is playing on TV.

On the other hand, if you prefer to shoot some picturesque photos of Li River, then you must climb to the upper deck to the viewing platform. You can feel the cool breeze while enjoying the breathtaking karst formation. Remember to bring your jacket / windbreaker.

There are many mountains named after the shape of the mountain, like scholar, camel, horse, etc. A guide will be explaining all the famous mountains during the cruise. However, I can't really remember the names of the mountain. You must have good imagination in order to associate the mountains to their names. Note that there will be a professional photographer on board if you would like he / she to shoot your photos and convert them into a desktop calendar for remembrance. It costs RMB130.

If you are hungry and would like to munch something, why not try their local snacks of the Li River, such as snails, shrimps, crabs, fish, etc. RMB20 per bowl. You can also taste the exotic Osmanthus Flower fish which is quite costly.

Meals (economic or buffet) can be arranged when purchasing the cruise ticket. Ticket price depends on the type of cruise and meals. Meals are generally bland and home-cooking style.

The best times to cruise Li River are early in the morning and evening when the sun is setting. However, in rainy days you can see a misty Li River which is so dreamlike.
