  Tobaggon ride
by sailornappo

Favorite thing: One of the popular things to do when in Madeira is a ride down the street in one of the wicker basket tobaggon, steered by 2 men. The ride has been somewhat shortened due to increased traffic even on the narrow side-roads which are used for the run.
At this time the run is about 2 km down a paved narrow winding road, where the occasional car or Taxi may come onward and force the tobaggon to stop temporarily, kind of a nuisance being interrupted.
The ride is not cheap, Eu 10.00 / pers. and the basket seats 2 people. Even if someone wants to go solo, the charge will be for 2.
At the end, the stewards steering the basket will ASK for a tip, so be prepared. Also, they are well organized with picture taking, and as soon as you arrive at the end of the run, a picture of you in the basket will be waiting for you to purchase, at a cost of Eu 10.00.
It seems expensive, but is well documented in a nice colourful folder, with great shots of Madeira and your own 23x15 cm (about 9 x 6 in) picture inside.
Even a second copy for your mate, made almost instantly while you wait will cost the same. But, it makes for a nice memory.

ps: This picture is a copy of the one we received.
