"Amazing views- pick a clear day!" Empire State Building Tip by jobekenobi

Empire State Building, New York City: 373 reviews and 609 photos

The Empire State is a must-see. Although it looks tall from the outside you can't really get an idea of just how tall it is untill you're looking down. It is much higher than anything else and there are some great views/ photo opportunities to be had. It is cold up there though so take something warm. We paid a little extra to go on the 'skyride' which is flight sim over NYC. (It breaks the queuing up a bit too!) If you are going with kids they will love it - it lasts about 15 mins I think, then you carry on up to the viewing platform. One annoying thing was that they insiit on taking everyone's photo in front of a picture of the ESB and then try to sell it to you before you leave - they do this by making you queue past the selling area. It was quite annoying because you can't opt out and then it is extra queuing. Having said that though, several times we went past the outside of the building and there were no queues or just a small one so if time is on your side it might be worth checking later of the queue is long.
