Saxon Switzerland has 'thousands' of walking tracks. Everywhere you will find nice signposted walks. Some of them very easy and flat and others more straining, while climbing the mountains of the "Elbsandstein".

Having been there just a couple of days, we had to make a choice for our walk/hike.

From a car park near the village of Ostrau we followed a track to the Schrammsteine. But first we passsed a very old guesthouse 'Schrammsteinbaude" (built in 1906).

The track goes through a forest and sometimes there is a view on the bizarre rockformations. Suddenly we stand at the feet of the rocks. Oh, how tiny you feel, being so close to these rocks.

We had to climb a steep iron staircase to the top and there were a lot of other walkers. This is a spectacular part of the track, specially when it is more or less foggy.
On our way down we had to be very careful, because the stone steps are moss-covered.

All together the walk will take 3 hours.

Leave Bad Schandau on the B172 along the Elbe, after Postewitz turn to the left. A winding and climbing road wikll bring you to Ostrau. Just before this village is car park on the left. Here starts your walk.
