Singapore has great local food and affordable. A good meal will cost a few bucks. You will find the local goods at open aired hawker centers. Depending on the area-various hawker centers will have different items. They aren't all the same. There will be stalls of different types of Chinese, Malay, Muslim Indian and other goodies.

Also you should try a curry puff. A small turnover filled with potato and spices. Sort of like a samosa.

Here are some of the popular foods.

Chinese:
Char Kway Teow
Ban Mian
Chicken Rice

Malay:
Laksa
Nasi Lemak
Mee Rebus

Indian Muslim:
Roti Prata (meat or some come with fruit-mango, banana)For this go to Teka Market Hawker Center in Little India.
Murtabak
Biryani (chicken, lamb or mutton)

Address: all over Singapore
Price Comparison: least expensive
Price: less than US$10

Theme: Local
