The Hotel Mamounia is named after the gardens, in which it is set, which were originally known as 'Arset el Mamoun'.

The gardens were named after Prince Moulay Mamoun, who was the son of the 18th century ruler of Marrakesh - Sultan Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah.

The gardens date back 300 years and are surrounded by Marrakesh's famously ancient red walls.

Palm trees, rose bushes, manicured lawns and flower beds are maintained by a team of gardeners, and song birds, fishes and frogs can be seen and heard.

Fountains such as the one in the picture, along with the decorative canopies of the entrance, add colour to the landscape.

Winston Churchill , on urging Franklyn D Roosevelt to join him in Morocco for the 1943 Casablance conference, described La Mamounia as 'The most Beautiful place on earth'!
Well I wouldn't go that far, but it is quite impressive!
