It is of course the thing that nearly everyone who visits Edinburgh needs to do. Walk to the Castle by experiencing the Royal Mile (shops, bars and restaurants).

The Castle seems to have many things for everyone - the views from the ramparts, the military history, the architecture, it's turbulent history and of course the Honours of Scotland aka the Scottish Crown Jewels.

(They had been lost for some years, and through some interesting quirks of fate they had been rediscovered by a group of Scots Patriots who included the author - Sir Walter Scott)

Don't forget the One o'clock Gun - which still sounds daily to advise the City what time it is.
