"Cerillos" New Mexico Things to Do Tip by Martinewezel

Cerillos is a very short distance off the Turquoise Trail. This town, with it's dirt streets is such a visual reminder of the Old West that it has starred in several movies, such as "The Cowboys", with John Wayne, and Young Guns.

Nowadays it's the home of a small Hispanic community, but during the mining period it was a town with lots of saloons and hotels.

If you happen to stop here, visit Casa Grande Trading Post, with several shops, including a jewelry.
The owner has a large collection of stones and cristals.
She sells hand made jewels, among which earrings, made with old US money (1 cent and 5 cents with indian picture). In her collection we found a set of "money earrings" made with old Belgian Francs. He he he... we recognized them immediately!
