To the left of the Church S, Nicolo is this structure. It looks like a small theater with its seats carved into the rock. It seats 300 and was built between 3-400BC. It was probably the meeting place of the city legislature.. Beyond it is a square tower called the Oratory of Phalaris(another misnomer) it was a shrine(2C BC) and was transformed into a Christian chapel.Across the back stretches the marvellous Museo.What did the Akragans do for fun (besides procreating}? Answer, more of the same. They bred horses and won numerous Olympic prizes (much of the fine mainland ceramic art and statuettes in the museum may have been trophies). Even though their trade involved hundreds of ships and made them wealthy, it must have required quite an outlay to send to Greece several chariots , horse-teams , crew and drivers to consistently win as history says they did. So the Akragans were the original NASCAR buffs. Is that why there is no theater here?
