Trattoria Toscana: "Thousands of tastes of Tuscany to try out" Budapest Restaurant Tip by shirez

Although Italian restaurants are ten-a-penny in Budapest, one in particular offers an authentic dining experience. Trattoria Toscana situated near the Danube in District V has a uniquely warm Mediterranean ambience with a huge selection of tasty dishes representing the best in Tuscan cuisine.

The extensive menu developed by Tuscan-trained chef Giuseppe Mosti is a bit overwhelming at first, especially if your stomach is rumbling. But thanks to the basket of warm pizza bread brushed with olive oil brought immediately by the waiters, you can briefly stave off your hunger pains to calmly peruse.

Favorite Dish: There is an amazing range of fish as appetisers and for the main meal: swordfish carpaccio served with pink pepper and citronette (HUF 2,990) or sautéed black mussels with garlic, pepper and white wine (HUF 2,290) as starters, grilled prawns (HUF 4,190) as a main course or a pasta like penne with fresh tuna, capers and a black olive sauce (HUF 2,290).
More mainstream Italian fare includes bruschetta toast with mixed toppings (HUF 990) or Tuscan prosciutto with sugar melon (HUF 1,990) or perhaps with one of the many soups like porcini mushroom cream (HUF 990). Then you can move on to one of the farm house style pastas such as tagliatelle amatriciana style with onion, ham and peeled tomato sauce (HUF 1,390) or one of the various meat dishes with chicken, steak or veal. Pizza is a standard at an Italian restaurant, but this has to be the best in the city, partly thanks to the special pizza oven. I tried the Four Seasons pizza with prosciutto, mushrooms, olives and artichokes (EUR 2,150). The crust was incredibly light and crispy and the sauce was perfectly spiced.
If your stomach can take the challenge, the dessert selection delights. Try the ever-favourite Tiramisu (HUF 990) or the typical Tuscan dessert of cantucci biscuits and vin santo dessert wine (HUF 990). The wine list is also top-notch and includes both Italian and Hungarian wines. Reservations are definitely recommended, since many already seem to appreciate this taste of Italy.
