"The Dragalevtsi Lift" Vitosha Tip by terrycowan

Vitosha, Sofia: 16 reviews and 24 photos

Tired of the city? The mountains are just minutes away. Sofia is nestled at the base of the Vitosha Mountains. The Vitosha National Park is just south of the southern ring road around Sofia. A short and inexpensive taxi ride from the city center will take you to the Dragalevtsi chairlift. I rode the lift in the morning, during a weekday, and there was no queue. The ride up the mountain was quiet and relaxing. The lift stops at about the tree line, from which a number of hiking trails continue on up and around the mountain peaks. There was still some snow on the mountain when I was there in June. A cafe is at the base of the lift, and the historic Dragalevtsi Monastery is only a short walk away.

Address: Dragalevtsi
Directions: Vitosha is one of the mountains around Sofia (there are also Ljulin and Plana). You can go there by car or bus.
