The first cityhall dates back to 1428. Around 1570 major alterations took place. Between 1875 and 1880 they built a third cityhall in neogotic style. Which was totalled by the first world war. In 1923 when it was rebuilt the architect ( J.Viérin ) used the regional Flemish renaissance style. As a typical mideaeval flemish symbol of city freedom a belltower was built in the courtyard.
