The Veste Coburg belongs to the best of all preserved castles in Germany.
Far away obviously she sits enthroned on a high Dolomitfelsen. From the Veste we have a breathtaking distant look to Thuringian Forest, Fichtelgebirge, Franconia Forest, Steigerwald and Haßberge. Because of her dominant position, her magnitudes, but also because of her importance as a residence of famous rulers the Veste Coburg is also called as " Frankish Crown ". In earlier times she also offered a hostel to significant personalities, under it Lucas Cranach the senior and Martin Luther.
The Veste Coburg is surrounded with a triple wall ring. The external ring has a circumference of approx. 260 x 135 ms.
The Veste accommodates a big art collection, above all, glass and porcelain. The castle museum is really worth seeing.
