  Abbaye aux Hommes
by Pieter11

The city of Caen, situated in the heart of Normandy, is well known because of the role in the Second World War. Here the battle started in 1944. This makes that a big part of the inner town has been destroyed, leaving obvious gaps behind. But still there is a lot to see in this nice city:

- In the centre of town there is an old castle. There is a lot to see inside the wall of the fortress, and walking on top of the walls you have a nice view all over the city. Inside you also find the Museum of Arts and Normandy.

- The Abbaye aux Hommes, the Men´s Abbey is a huge and beautiful building in the centre of the city.

- In the Rue Saint Pierre, you can find lots of impressive old houses, some of more then 250 years old. It´s also a nice shoppingstreet and a good place to rest on a terrace.

- The Eglise Saint Pierre, situated in the St. Pierre street, is a beautiful 11th century church, which is the best to be viewed from the castlewalls. It´s a nice Gothic piece of architecture.
