"Packing List" Vietnam Packing List Tip by MJL

Vietnam What to Pack: 70 reviews and 36 photos

Luggage and bags: I always use a normal hard suitcase and an average size hand luggage.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: There are two climate type in Vietnam. There are distinct seasons in north Vietnam (in February winter - temp. 20 - 24 degrees Celsius). In the south, there are always tropical conditions. So pack long and short sleeves shirts and shorts and normal trousers.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Ordinary toiletries are enough because you can buy everything (at least in cities).

Photo Equipment: I have no experiences concerning digital cameras, but new normal films and developing is VERY CHEAP (four roll of 24 pictures films 11 ?).

Miscellaneous: Currency matters: Vietnam has a currency named dong, which is quite weak (1 US$ = 15 000 dong). Strangely there is two currency system in Vietnam, normal people use Vietnamese dong and eg. everything is stated as US dollars at hotels. So take some amount currency like one dollar bills and change dongs only small amount at a time.

You may need an adapter for electrical apparatus. I did not need that in Hanoi. Still, there are very strange wall sockets in my hotel in Ho Chi Minh City (I call it 'chinese' socket as I saw them first in China (three quite large pins)).
