"If you want to travel inward..." Italy Off The Beaten Path Tip by JeffVFR

Italy Off The Beaten Path: 430 reviews and 602 photos

If you want to travel inward in Italy, don't miss Civita di Bagnoreggio, about 45 minutes north (by bus) of Orvieto in the Tuscany region. This is a 2700 year old city that sits atop an incredible rock in the middle of a huge valley. Hiking to the city is tiring but worth ten such hikes.

I travelled to Rome, Venice, and Florence and returned to Bagnoreggio to finish out my trip because I enjoyed that tiny town more than anything else on the trip.

Stay at Al Boschetto's in Bagnoreggio and be treated like one of the family. Speak the language or bring a translation book, because everyone only speaks Italian here. It is an absolute jewel.
