I noticed the Nunnery of Mar Girgis (Saint George) because of its amazing door: very tall and all nicely carved. A woman with a little baby was sitting right outside it. On the side there was an equally charming wooden window.

Of this great place, this is what we could visit, as it was undergoing extensive renovation. We regretted not having been able to visit the chapel: according to our guidebook, some bizarre ritual can be carried out. To receive the nuns' benediction, one has to be chained in the chapel, and tell his prayers whilr still in chains.
