Senate House ? also known as the Curia. This was where the city?s magistrates and senators would get together to discuss important cases. The central courtyard was covered in mosaics, surrounded by huge steps where the senators would sit and niches in the perimeter would house various statues. The Senate was originally constructed in the 1st century and rebuilt after the earthquake of AD365 including the gery granite and cipollino marble columns and a portico. On the low steps there would be bronze or wooden seats for the senators. The president's seat was in the background, whilst magistrates would sit at the sides.
