"Covent Garden market ~ 25 years old!" London Off The Beaten Path Tip by Jenniflower

The Covent Garden market is not really a traditional London market anymore. It is largely under cover, is permanent or semi-permanent and encompasses a large area, including the streets and surrounds. It's a place where you can go to eat out, go shopping, go to the theatre, watch street theatre, listen to musicians and generally have a super time.
You will see strangely dressed gold and silver people in odd poses. If you pop some money in their basket or hat, they will move (and probably frighten the heck out of you at the same time haha)! But at least you'll know you are on the right road :)
The craft market is a definate must. You can find some really lovely items of jewellery, paper and artwork, but be expected to pay alot for it. I think it's a little pricey.
The market celebrates it's 25th anniversary on the 21st June 2005. It's actually been around for hundreds of years, but only 25 years in it's current location.
One warning: The Covent Garden tube (Piccadilly line) is often closed (closes on Saturday afternoons at 3pm, plus during fire alerts as it is one of London's deepest tube stations!) so it's best to then take the tube to Leicester Square/Charing Cross (Northern line) to get there.
