Los Cristianos is just around the coast from Playa De Las Americas. While it is also teeming with tourist development it does still maintain its original "old town" core and its harbour, as well as having a non-tourist based suburban area. The streets up behind the beach are pedestrianised and lined with some quite nice restaurants and the main square beside the parish church is a quiet and pleasant place.
The harbour is still a working fishing port as well as being the ferry terminal for the catermeran and the slow boats to La Gomera, Hierro, La Palma and beyond.
There are a couple of good beaches at Los Cristianos too, one right by the town and the other (Las Vistas) just a little way around towards Las Americas. Both are quite large and in little horseshoe shaped bays and the sand is not too black. As usual the beaches are backed by a promenade lined with cafes, bars and shops.
I had my nicest meal of the holiday at Los Cristianos (see restaurants section).
