Located on the road from Brasov to Campulung, the old ruling place of Romania Country, most probably built in 1377, witnessed the great and stormy history, with the otoman war and local rulers strugling for power. In 1456, after Iancu de Hunedoare has died, Vlad Tepes used the castle as a headquarter refuge, planning the battles against otomans. This is in fact the only link to the man known as Dracula for it's bloody methods of impaling the enemies to the Bran Castle.
The Bran castle is more famous because it was the place to watch for trade in the Bran pass - there was also a wall and gate separating Romania Country from Transylvania. 16th century was also full of history, with peasant riots and with the area bidded for by austrians, otomans and hungarians. 17th and 18th centuries was also not as peaceful, and in 1877, during the Independence War, the Bran castle was prepared (modified) for war against austrian empire. In 1886 the castle is rebuilt after war times and peace settled aonly in 1920, when the castle is given to the royal family by the authorities of Brasov county. The royal family made some modifications and then in 1947 the Bran Castle was open as a museum.
