Rambutan: "Terrific Thai" Los Angeles Restaurant Tip by SFHulaGIrl

Located in a non-descript strip mall, Rambutan doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's worth your time to go in and try their food. The menu is fairly extensive and prices are quite reasonable. Five of us had an entree apiece, a couple of appetizers, and a bottle or two of wine for under $140. It may have been even cheaper than that!
Service, on the other hand, is BAD!!! Went there again on a TUESDAY night without a reservation. The place was packed. We waited at the front near the small table and menus by the door, assuming this was the host/hostess station. The "host" stared at us at least 3 times, but never came over. We eventually went to another area by the bar to ask how long the wait would be; they replied "30 minutes." We then decided to place an order to go, but were instructed to stand nearer to the bar. Of course, the lighting nearer the bar was even dimmer, which made the menu next to impossible to read. We placed our order, and was told that it would be "15-20 minutes." After 30 MINUTES, we asked a waitress to check on our order. Moments later, without checking, she said that it wasn't ready yet! Finally, the male bartender took pity on us, went into the kitchen, and packed our order himself! The food was still great, but I doubt that I'll return any time soon.
Favorite Dish: The Siam pork chop is delish!! Plus, the beef with garlic and black pepper does NOT skimp on the garlic!
