Fort McKavett is not the place to go if your primary interest is in hiking. However, there is is one very interesting half-mile trail which leads from the Visitor Center, past a picnic area, and to Government Spring. Along the way you will see interesting flora and fauna, and an old quarry and lime kiln. I also sighted several birds and a fox squirrel during my hike.

Equipment: Comfortable walking shoes. Watch out for sharp rocks and cacti.

Directions: The trail begins to the left side of the Visitor Center.
