Tony's is an institution on the Drive (aka: Commercial Drive), as it's been around for over 30 years! However, it was my first time eating there in February of 2005, when me and my boyfriend ate soup and sandwiches at their tables outside.
Located in an old brick building, Tony's is a funky cafe and a catering company. Their cafe has a great selection of paninis, many of them made with Greek ingredients.
If you're looking for somewhere to pick up a bagged lunch to go, or if you feel like eating some really fresh and tasty paninis while sitting outside, this is the place to come.
There is no real table service - you order at the counter from the friendly staff, and if they have to cook what you ordered, they'll take it out to your table.
Bonus point for Tony's - They were playing cool music when I visited (the Police), which always makes it a good experience for me!
Favorite Dish: The carrot & ginger soup is creamy and comforting.
They have a variety of salads and paninis, but I ordered their special panini of the day which had olives, cucumber, feta cheese, oregano, spinach, garlic, almonds, and all kinds of goodness, in toasted foccaccia. It was the perfect light lunch.
If you really want to play into the atmosphere of the Drive, then be sure to pick up a Happy Planet smoothie - locally made fruity organic goodness!
