Alcatraz, San Francisco: 292 reviews and 488 photos

Officially, during the 29 years Alcatraz was a federal prison incarcerating, among those, "popular" mobs such as Al Capone and "Machine Gun" Kelly. According to records there were no successful escapes. But, four prisoners disappeared and they have never been found. For the tourists it could be as difficult to get there as it was for the convicts to get to SF or Oakland. For more info visit my transportation tips.
