Actually lots of sweat as its really hot and humid, but hey, what do you expect from a tropical climate!

Cairns is really the gateway to the barrier reef. From here there is a myriad of trips swim, snorkel, dive and helicopter around it.

Its a popular place for backpackers and has lots of cheap hostel accomodation as well as luxury hotels. There are lots of restaurants, altho the ones along the seafront get pretty crowded.

There is a boardwalk that runs for a mile or so out of town which makes a nice evening stroll.

The beach is nothing much to write home about being muddy and scrubby but it does harbour some intereting sea birds including pelican, spoonbills and cormorants. There was also reported sitings of a large crocodile offshore when we were there although we did'nt see it.

There is a man made beach area with pools barbeques cafes and changing rooms that make a better alternative.

There is also a small market on a Saturday in this area.

There is a large shopping complex down by the harbour but I was'nt too impressed with it. Full of tourist tat and shops that had nothing much out of the ordinary to offer.

There are lots of trips you can do from cairns apart from the barrier reef. You can take the train up to Kuranda and experience the jungle. Theres a 7 mile cable car to bring you back.

You can go on Bush safaris, visit the aboriginal cultural centre at tjapukai : or drive up to Cape tribulation or Port Douglas.
