"London open house day" Openhouse Tip by jo104
Openhouse, London: 5 reviews and 10 photos
During the 3rd weekend in September 18 & 19 Sept 2005 London a number of buildings in various boroughs are open to the public. Admission is free and there are guides present to inform you about the building. A lot of these buildings are not usually open to the public and therefore the queues are fairly lengthy. I can highly recommend planning your day over this weekend & making sure you can see a few places as this is an annual opportunity only. Guides are available free from any library.
I have visited:
Lambeth Palace in Lambeth which is a guided tour of the archbishop of Canterbury’s home dating from 13C incl great hall, crypt etc – very long queues Worth the wait
Custom House – late Georgian building central point for all London customs
Guidhall – Grade 1 listed
Old Tukish Baths – now restaurant see my restaurant tip Ciro’s Pizza Pomodoro
Greenwich – seen most things there eg observatory, cutty sark, Admirals House etc
I have been to Mansion house residence of the lord mayor but an invitation is needed
I have been to the top of the Gerkin on a function which offers spectacular views of london
Foreign Office, Banqueting Hall
I will try and include these tips on my greater london page.
