"chiesa di S.Lorenzo fuori le mura" Basilica Papale di San Lorenzo fuori le Mura Tip by Julius_Caesar

Just outside the eastern wall of the city, set off by the cypresses of the Campo Verano cemetery, stands the church os San Lorenzo, dating from the 6th century. Close by stood a 5th century church dedicated to Virgin Mary, and the church we see today is the result of these two churches being knocked into one. The church was restored after it was badly damaged by Allied bombers in an air raid during World War II.

Address: Piazzale del Verano, 3
Directions: Piazzale del Verano; trams 3 and 19 go there, as well as several buses.
