The oldest traces of the name Middelheim
can be found in 1432. And the first
owner we can trace back is
'Laureys Van Aerschot de Jonghe (1399).

Since the 16th century a lot of Antwerp families
had their escape-place-from-Antwerp here.
They were referred too as 'plaisanterieën'
and used a summer residences.
The 'castle' was rebuild in the 18th century
after Lodewijk XVI-style, probably with the help
of Parisian architect 'B. Guimard'. And has since
then not undergoing any worth mentioning changes.

It stands now at the beautiful statue park.
(see location the precvious tip) reflecting
in a magnificient way in the water.

It is not open for public , only on rare occasions.
