"Swan Hill Pioneer Settlement Museum (The Murray)" State of Victoria Things to Do Tip by leffe3

State of Victoria Things to Do: 159 reviews and 358 photos

Victoria is awash with recreated 19th century towns. Sovereign Hill in Ballarat may be by far the best, but Swan Hill has an advantage in the Murray River and paddlesteam rides (at a price, of course!). It is therefore picturesquely located among gum trees and on the banks of the river, with any number of attractions within the settlement. One of the highlights is the Kaiser Panorama or Stereoscope Theatre from the 1880s, but there's plenty to keep even the most jaded cynic interested, ranging from the general store, the Post office, the chemist, the smithy etc.. And de rigeur for such museums, the staff are also all dressed in period style.
