Favorite thing: One thing about Kangaroo Island I found interesting was that the insects were different from the mainland. The main insect at the place I stayed at in Penneshaw was probably filling the evolutionary niche of the cockroach (see picture). There were beetles that from the top looked like a oval upturned leaf, and at Cape Gantheume Wilderness Protection Area a christmas-beetle coloured variety of fly.

There were weeds which smelled like burning rubber if disturbed, and ones which grow a few meters high if left alone (see picture).

Animals that aren't unique to Kangaroo Island but are uncommon elsewhere in the region are Wallabies, Penguins, Echidnas, Sea Lions and Platypus.
