There is a display on a wall of the Women in Military Service for America Memorial, the place to share your story on women in U.S. Armed forces. I admire this briliant idea and I enjoyed reading a few stories put there.

I remember a story of a woman from Virginia who told about her life and work in a military and medical laboratory during WWII. She started to dance in numerous canteens, bases etc. to entertain military staff. She was engaged to a soldier who was fighting on Guadalcanal and had been in the service overseas for three and a half years. She thought he would be at home any minute. When he came back, they got married for 51 years, the women read. Well, the story gave me some picture of the USA during second part of WWII, time of homes with no men, large individual efforts of those who had to stay in the USA to help and win the war etc.
