"Centro" Downtown Tip by realde14
Downtown, Rio de Janeiro: 48 reviews and 98 photos
Rio's center is busy and bustling during the day and empty during the night. There are some very fine colonial buildings and museums worth checking out on awalking tour.
You can start at the Praca Floriano, which is along one of the main arteries that cross RIo's centro, Avenida Rio Branco. At the Praca Floriano (metro stop Cinelandia), there is the Teatro Municipal, inspired by the Paris Opera. A bit further up the hill is the Convento de Santo Antonio, which has the oldest church in Rio. Continuing towards the Catedral Metropolitana, a post-modern cone-shaped church, you will soon see the white aequaduct, which means you are now in the Lapa neighborhood.. Lapa has some beautiful cobblestone street, but a lot of the buildings are dilapitaded.
