This memorial honoured 7 members of the United States armed forces who died during an attempt to rescue American hostages held in Iran, 25 April 1980. When I saw this memorial in the Arlington National Cemetery I had to think over what I could read about the event, in a country under the Soviet occupation, that time.

That time communist mass media announced, with great, not at all hidden satisfaction, on first pages of all newspapers, that eight Americans died during unsuccessful attempt to rescue hostages in Iran and that it proved total defeat of American, imperialistic policy. Later on, I got to know, with great surprise, about contribution of Polish intelligence (communist that time) in targeting the place where American hostages were hidden and about the criticism of Soviet authorities about it. It's controversial knowledge though, still kept in secret or... simply false information gave to the public opinion for some reasons.
