  Dala horses, Nusnas, Sweden
by evaanna

Take a tour of the workshop where Dala horses are produced. The idea of making them dates back to 1928 when two brothers, Nils and Jannes Olsson, began to carve and sell them to help their parents make ends meet. For some reason, the colourful figures became famous and even symbolic of the Swedish countryside. Each Swedish household must have at least a pair of them. The souvenir shop there sells also other wooden animals but none is as popular as the horses.
Admission free.

Address: Nusnas, east of Mora
Directions: There are buses running there from Mora.
