"The Icehouse" Banff Things to Do Tip by stevezero
Banff Things to Do: 18 reviews and 24 photos
The icehouse was the forerunner of the refridgerator, on a grand scale.
It was a domed shaped building, covered with earth, built over a large pit. The pit contianed the ice which was collected locally in winter. The insulation kept the ice from melting and all the perishable food for the big house could be kept all year round.
The icehouse can be seen shortly into the woodland walk from Duff House
Directions: On woodland walk from Duff House
