$$$ AND HANDS OF CHRIS - VT CASHIER

Our bill in Jaleo restaurant was long. It contained 13 different positions with the sum of $120.23 at the end (add 15% costumary tip). It was not expensive restaurant - we, 6 persons ate and drunk a lot.

Well, gentelmen don't talk about money but let me not to be a gentelman. I and Urszula were not allowed to share in the cost of our meals and drinks. We were told that we are guests and at the beginning of quite expensive trip or something those lines. Anyway, I wanted to pay but my friends stood firmly untouched. Well, I do appreciate it a lot, it's very, very nice although, on the other hand, I always feel a little bit confused when I don't pay for myself (exception: among daily closest friends it works different way, with no confusion).

Well, the same unexpectadly happened to us in our first US VT meeting in Oceanside, California a year before. Well, I must admit that I was really on low budget after paying a lot for car hire and with a plan of long trip (I have driven 11,531 miles).

THOUGHTS
I don't know what rule is the best, I do respect cultural differences. I can tell you only how it works in Poland. In, say, restaurants special guests (especially foreign visitors) don't pay for themselves unless the others can't bear the cost (which in my country full of poverty may happen quite often). Usually if someone say: I invite you for a dinner, it means that he/she pays for it. Otherwise he/she says let's go for a dinner. Younger folks and friends usually say in advance that they want/don't want to pay for you isn't it the best? But keep in mind that the things work different among various people. I forgot to ask how it works in the USA, variously, I suspect.

Dress Code: Whatever you want to feel comfortable.
