"Halls Creek/ Duncan Road" Australia Things to Do Tip by martin_nl

Since we drove a camper that was not 4WD equipped we had to miss out on Purnululu NP and the Gibb River Road, so instead we drove down the Great Nothern Highway. Even though we probably missed out on the Kimberley highlights there are still a few very nice places to go and have a look, if you know about them.
The first place you get to from Kununurra is Halls Creek. Here we found that there is a 4WD track going down Duncan Road. At the visitors centre they told us it would be possible to drive to Palm Springs with a campervan. Just drive slow! So that is what we did. This dirt road can be bumpy at times, especially the first bit, but once you get on going it is actually alright. Just drive in a high gear and you'll be fine.
Sights you can see along the route are China Wall, Old Halls Creek, Palm Springs and a little bit further Sawpit Gorge. Make many stops so you get the real outback feeling. The Kimberley is among my favourite parts of Australia!
